COVID-19 PRESS UPDATE - March 18, ​2020

Due to recent events concerning COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Mifflin County Courthouse will have limited access for the public. Therefore, in order to protect all citizens, offices are implementing temporary procedures. Please follow these new procedures to stay safe and if you have any questions call in advance of traveling to the Courthouse. The Commissioners encourage individuals with non-essential business to refrain from visiting the Courthouse until further notice.

 

The President Judge has declared a Judicial Emergency in the 58th Judicial District as indicated in the March 17th Declaration of Judicial Emergency which states the order shall be in effect until April 14th, 2020, due to COVID-19. Additionally the President Judge has issued an Administrative Order for COVID-19 Precautions for Domestic Relations Section.

 

Commissioners’ Meeting

 

The next public meeting of the County Commissioners is scheduled to be held on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room A located in the Courthouse, 20 North Wayne St., Lewistown, PA  17044. While this is a public meeting, the Commissioners ask those not having urgent business to refrain from attending.  The meeting will be available at a later date through MCTV.

Recorder of Deeds

 

Recording: Mail in documents is the preferred method and the most convenient/safest for all involved. For walk-ins a drop off box will be located at the entrance of the courthouse for recording land records. The documents will be processed in the order that they are received. Documents will be returned by mail.  Documents must be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Register of Wills

 

Probates/Estates: Please make an appointment if you need to probate. Appointments can be made by calling the Register and Recorder’s Office at (717)242-1449. When you call to make your appointment, arrangements will be made on how to proceed.

 

Inheritance Tax Payments: Please mail in payments to the Mifflin County Register and Recorder’s Office. Receipts will be mailed to the customer.

 

Clerk of Orphans’ Court

 

Marriage License Applicants: **UPDATED 3/23/20** The Register of Wills will not be processing marriage licenses at this time. 

 

Certified Copies of Marriage Licenses: Requests can be made by calling (717)242-1449. Please make arrangements with the Mifflin County Register and Recorder’s Office to pick up your certified copy. The office requires the exact amount due of $4.00 when picking up a certified copy of a marriage license. Requests can also be mailed to the Mifflin County Register and Recorder’s Office. Mail-in requests are preferred for the safety of our citizens. For mail-in requests please provide the individuals names and date of marriage along with the $4.00 fee and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

 

Public

 

Record requests/Title Searchers: It is recommended by the Mifflin County Register and Recorder’s Office that searches are done remotely. Please visit http://infoconcountyaccess.com/ for access to land records. Files and recordings that are not available online can be ordered by calling the Mifflin County Register and Recorder’s Office at (717)242-1449.

 

Birth Certificate Requests: Applications are available online through www.health.pa.gov/MyRecords/Certificates.  If you have any further questions call the Mifflin County Register and Recorder’s Office at 717-242-1449.


Prothonotary/Clerk of Court

 

Filing of documents: We encourage filing of documents to be done by mail if possible. Documents should be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope. 

 

Forms: Forms for Pennsylvania citizens, judiciary and law enforcement can be found at ujsportal.pacourts.us. If the form you need is not available on-line, please call our office at (717)248-8146 and check if they are available here and we will mail the forms to you.

 

Passports:  Passport applications will be handles according to normal procedures. Have all necessary documents ready. Applications can be printed off the US Passport Agency’s website.

 

Treasurer’s Office

All State Systems for any licenses through the Treasurer’s Office are currently unavailable as such the Treasurer’s Office will not be serving the public until further notice. Any questions please contact the Treasurer’s Office at 717-248-8439.

 

The Commissioners will re-evaluate these actions and recommendation on a daily basis​
