Twelve Year Transportation Plan

The State Transportation Commission (STC) holds a series of hearings every two years. The hearing for the SEDA-COG area, which includes Mifflin County, was held in State College on September 1, 2005. These hearings, along with information from SEDA-COG, help the STC decide the projects to place on the State Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

The following recommended improvements that were requested in 2001 and 2003 were also requested for 2005:
1.  T-357 – Beaver Dam Run Bridge (Until 2003, this bridge was in the Transportation Improvement Plan.)
2.  Alignment, bridge, and intersection improvements along SR 655 in the area of Alexander Springs and SR 305 at the intersection of East Back Mountain Road
3.  T-342 – Knepp Road Bridge repair
Other non-construction projects requested again in 2005 for inclusion are as follows:
1.  Corridor/Transportation Study of U.S. Routes 522/22 South of McVeytown to Water Street in Huntingdon County
2.  Implementation of the South Central Centre County Transportation Study to improve access between Mifflin and Centre Counties
3.  Corridor study and environmental overview of U.S. Route 522 from Lewistown to Selinsgrove
4.  Preliminary engineering and environmental studies to address interchange deficiencies along Route 322
5.  Traffic study for the Borough of Lewistown focusing on the downtown area
6.  Feasibility study for developing an access road in Armagh Township to improve traffic flow to an existing industrial area between Old U.S. 322 and Church Lane (T-364)
Two new projects, a curve improvement along Ferguson Valley Road and a traffic light at Cedar Street and South Logan Boulevard to better serve Indian Valley High School, were also requested.
The STC will make a final decision on projects for the TIP by August 2006.

Mifflin County submitted written testimony on September 23, 2005. Since little new money was anticipated, the focus of the written testimony was ongoing projects and those already in the state’s Twelve-Year Transportation Plan:

1.  Lewistown Narrows

2.  Lewistown Bypass

3.  SR 1005–Yeagertown Bridge

4.  SR 305 over Little Kish Creek

5.  SR 522–Jacks Creek Bridge

6.  PA 655 over Little Kish Ext.

7.  SR 2002 over Belltown Run

8.  SR 2007–Kish Creek Bridge

9.  T-702-Schoolhouse Road Bridge (Oliver)
